HELL ON WHEELS pt 1 starts Monday
Steeple is back on Monday for a new run! The first story is a two-parter, HELL ON WHEELS. What is this story about? It’s about me having to draw a lot of cars in part one and something arguably even more difficult in part 2. Good luck me. Good luck you. See you on Monday!
Yayyy!!!!! More Steeple!!!!
It’s Steeple time
I have doubts that this was approved by the Comics Code Authority. Not least because Brian is basically a walking Code violation.
Also, there’s the fact that the Comics Code Authority doesn’t actually exist anymore.
Well somebody is using their stamp!
I have been waiting a year for this!
John, it seems that the “save your name and email for the next time you post” feature isn’t actually working. At least, it isn’t for me.
This is a “feature” of the new plug in I’m using that I did not anticipate and I don’t know how to fix. Like how comics don’t post to the native WordPress RSS feed now. I’d say I’ll fix these things but I don’t know how and I can’t switch back to the old plug-in and theme.
What about the option to link website urls? Is that available on the new theme or has it also disappeared?
It’s all vanished or broken and I don’t know how to put it back in.
I’ve swapped out the comments.php file with one from the default WordPress theme to test the retention of the name and email fields, and they both worked as they were meant to, so it’s possibly something this theme’s developer has broken (I tried it on other sites using this plugin too) – I’ve asked him if he can help.
While you’re fixing things, you may want to set `p {background-color: initial}` in your custom stylesheet (you can do this in the Appearance menu).
I’ve done it, Chris, just as you said, and may God have mercy on my soul because I have no idea what has changed.
May the great comments question be answered in all our lifetimes!!
I believe it sets the background color of the comments to the default value, which is white, which it already was. I think maybe you want:
p { background-color: inherit; }
Which should set the text background to the same color as the background of the surrounding box.
In good news, Firefox is reliably showing me people’s gravatars now, which it wasn’t on this site before, and still doesn’t on badmachinery.com.
This seems like an appropriate place for this: I was just enjoying the delightful writing of the character descriptions, and thought you would want to know that there’s a typo! In the reverend section, should be “though” instead of “thought”.
Get rid of your Easy Google Fonts plugin, which is the source of the bad css, and also inserts its own inline style after your wordpress custom css which will try to clobber your changes. If you have to keep the plugin, make your custom style more specific:
#comments.p { background-color: inherit; }
Hell yeah! New Steeple!
This already seems awesome. Can’t wait to see if Billie will be able to make another car explode during this story or not.
Love the Hot Wheels™ title logo
VW Campervan, Yay!
I hope this comic will feature a LOT of Magus Tom.
Hopefully not more of him than we’ve already seen. We wouldn’t want to get that CCA stamp revoked.
I at least want to see him in his swishy robe. It can stop there though.
Where the hell is Brian. *Fists on hips, tapping foot.*
Any Car GuysTM wanna identify the sedan? I’d say some garden variety Ford og Korean reasonably-priced-family-car but knowing John it is probably a specific make and model
Korean indeed – I’m pretty sure it’s a 1st gen Hyundai accent!
I am more excited for this than I’ve been for anything in my entire life!
Satan drives a VW bus?
Based on the page heading Marine Monster Jason is a regular character now! Nice to see that things are finally going his way.
I’m looking forward to this so much I keep coming back to see if it’s magically Monday yet.
Issue number right on the cover. Good show.
Got the first two British Bump Off comics and I was unsure which came first. Turns out the issue number is discretely displayed in small type on the bottom edge of the back cover.
Looking forward to more Steeple action.
Already excited for another chapter of Steeple! I’m already guessing the jolly unknown with the gold tooth is Tredregyn’s equivalent of Immortan Joe. Excited to see poor Jason added to the main cast.
I’m guessing some beloved British character actor who has been run in by the Plod at least once in every show from The Sweeney to Z-Cars to Softly, Softly to Parkin’s Patch
Or maybe Brian just shaved. (Note- I do not actually believe that’s Brian. Nor do I think he could shave without inflicting hordes of now-homeless wildlife and vermin on the surrounding countryside. However, they do have similarly-shaped faces.)
I was going to suggest it might be Brian before he found religion. But the hair color seems too light and he looks older than Brian currently does.
As the person who drew both characters let me assure you that they have not one line or dimension in common
To be fair – Satanism is probably a very rejuvenating religion.
Car faces!
I look forward to (possibly?) greeting the N-Wheels.
This joke is almost jail worthy
But “Steeple Chase” was just *sitting* there right out in the open…
Hurray! Thank you from all your Steeple Peeple!
mr. allison those CARS have FACES
well done very good job
approve of the cars
Drawing cars is one thing (I know a lot of people find them difficult but they’re one of my favourite things to draw) drawing a good Hot Wheels style logo is another (I have tried many times and they never quite look right!)
At last!
I thought the day would never come.
