Kraak! Groob groob
I’m not going to lie. I knew today’s comic was distasteful when I drew it, but this is the dangerous, edgy outlaw turf Steeple is in. Upsetting pageantry. Invisible flutes. Weird bird “relations”.

To be fair, “Groob groob” is not their safeword
If the bird “relation” is a premonition of the future “relationship” between the two churches…. maybe this will be not the best Christmas, but surely everyone will remember it forever.
The way that crow looks mounting the dove isn’t a very encouraging sign.
Be honest, John. This storyline is like 90% disturbing drawings of birds, isn’t it?
The birds saw Billie’s owl tattoo and assumed she was freaky.
Well the dove isn’t lifting its tail to allow contact, so it’s a one-sided affair for now.
So apparently Billie puts a lot of store in bird omens? First the chip-stealing seagulls and now the fornicating crow/dove couple. Wait until she sees the roast Christmas turkey, that’ll be a life-changer.
It would be remis not to note the Jethro Tull flute reference there….
I missed it because I had forgotten that you don’t normally stand on one leg to play the flute.
I saw the scheduled “you poor sod” and immediately thought of Aqualung
I did this without thinking, which shows the true power of Tull because I can name precisely two songs of theirs.
Please tell me one of them is “A Christmas Song.”
I’ve been thinking all day and I can’t name a single Tull song. And I’ve seen them play live. (Friend is a big fan.)
Obviously: Living In The Past. But then also Ring Out Solstice Bells, a seasonal compilation favourite.
Teacher, Bouree, living in the past, wait, wait, don’t tell; The Wall! No, that’s not right.
I was thinking J. Tull, too, but where are the pink tights?
I think if Penrose is the crow in this feathered premonition, Tom might be totally groob groob about it.
Indeed…as I recall from Steeple #3, there is indeed evidence to indicate that Maggie wasn’t the only member of the Belial set with a vigorous Penrose headcanon!
Cue the opening beats of the Eastenders end credit theme…
What is that thing on the back of the dove’s neck that looks like a piggy bank’s coin slot? Is that dove some kind of robot?
It’s a collared dove. Cute but noisy.

Or alternatively: that’s where the crow leaves the money, afterwards. Less awkward that way.
That! Comment was a riot, but possibly true, also.
