Gotcha
Research for today’s comic came down to looking a lot of screenshots of All Creatures Great And Small with Peter Davison and Christopher Timothy (forever “Christophy Timother” in my house) rooting around inside cows. I got there, right?

Billie has the potential to be a great veterinarian. But for now, she looks so confused about her life. Brian is nice to care about her ♡.
A Desmond costume oh dear god!!! O.o
Every time I see Billie’s owl tattoo, my heart swells three sizes.
It’s there for the “heads” as they say
That’s an owl? it’s not even a face. It’s a…diamond with shoulders OSLT. I don’t know much about tattoos, though.
It’s the owl symbol from Twin Peaks.
Spot on! Tristan and James would be proud, not to mention Siegfried!
Carol Drinkwater is the only “true” Helen though.
Bless you for obscuring the view wherever Billie’s left arm disappeared in panel one.
Indeed. This page could easily have been titled “arse magna”.
What goes on in this pantomime that requires to costume have an access hole to eggsy’s arse?
Birds have an all-purpose orfice. Eggs (as in Eggsy) come out of it as well as the product of kidneys and colon. Think about that as you have your nice soft-boiled egg for breakfast.
I rather imagine that laying at least one egg is part of the pantomime.
And that’s not to mention that an egg is a chicken’s monthlies.
What’s this I hear about them rebooting “All Creatures…” though! Stark heresy!
I’m going to investigate this radical reimagining very soon and report back, Ray.
Ray, I have watched it and I liked it. They haven’t introduced a talking robot or smartphones.
For a moment I thought I’d missed an episode where Peter Davison dressed like Marie Antoinette…
I had a moment there of thinking Eggsy was getting neutered.
He… wasn’t, right? It was just the rogue wire?
Depends on where the wire was poking.
It was probably touch and go.
Why would they “cover up” raising evil spirits? “Covering up” draining the souls of children, THAT I’d understand, but I’d have thought raising evil spirits would be acceptable Satanic holiday behavior. What are holidays for if not to lift one’s spirit? Live and learn.
Of course, draining children’s souls would give them a noticeable advantage in entering a workforce in which being steadily drained of one’s soul is the price of success, so maybe it’s not that they’d conceal it, it’s that it’s more of a “Sunday school” thing.
Because Reverend Penrose would chop Tom in half with his jewelled-handled
axe.
“Because Reverend Penrose would chop Tom in half”
I only “discovered” the strip this week, so this is as good a time as any to ask: Doesn’t consistently killing “mermen” and other such entities make Reverend Penrose for all intent and purpose a serial killer? What’s THAT about? John Allison comic strips have a history of depicting “monsters” as capable of being perfectly nice people and all of a sudden there’s a character who goes around killing them with no obvious consequences. Maybe it’s some British deal that I, a United Statesian, am somehow just not “getting.” 😐
This is explored in the original miniseries,, I don’t think I can explain it better than I did there. Well, I could, but it would be a bit prosaic. We’ll get back into it in future stories.
Well, as noted, as of last week I didn’t even know the strip existed. I’ll be playing catch-up for a while. Should be fun. 🙂
Short answer: The mermen of Tredeggyn are allied with dark forces, and overrun the town causing mischief and worse when not held back by Penrose and other servants of the Lord.
Long answer: Read the original miniseries! It was released by Dark Horse, is available on Comixology, it’s a great buy and issues #2 and 5 explore your concerns in great depth.
However, Desmond Fishman would probably be well-advised to steer clear of Tredregyn while Reverend Penrose is around.
Looking at the upcoming strips, it looks like you’ve got the dates wrong for the 8th and 9th of September — they each look to publish a day early. You may want to fix that if you don’t mean for that to happen.
Thanks Chris, you have a real eagle eye.
Now that’s what I call click-bait. And without any sordid pictures and bold headlines, either.
Of course Tom’s a massive diva too. How could it ever be otherwise?
