A micro-light aircraft (END OF PART 2)
I think Billie must have a very specific connection to small planes. You used to hear a lot about micro-light aircraft, but they never seem to come up any more. It’s all drones these days. So here’s a very, very cheerful video about them. I think it’s French. Why does it have that rootsy Americana music in the background? Why not, I am sure the Fédération Française d’ULM would respond.
That’s the end of Clotted Crime part 2, come back on Monday for part 3. — Colours by Sammy Borras
Rock? Is that really a place? By Splatt?
It’s a posh resort town.
It’s a few miles from Roll.
Sister City of Blues
It is really a place. They make a beer called Doombar there.
It’s on the Camel estuary, opposite Padstow. You could once buy pink sticks of rock with ‘Rock Rock” all down the middle. I am told some retired rock stars have a house there, but it is hard to spot.
It’s really a place and it’s the WORST
Maggie is such a powerful intoxicant she completely wipes the letter from Billie’s mind with that hug.
Awww, Billie is the sweetest friend you can dream of ♡. Maggie looks so happy to have her. But I’m scared… her father seems so powerful that Maggie is afraid of him.
Very much hoping now this is going to be a case of Chekhov’s Ultra-Liight Aircraft.
Tricky to fit one on a mantelpiece though.
A French aircraft documentary ought to have the Aeronauts’ theme tune
(For the many people who won’t remember, Aeronauts was a 70s imported French TV show about two jet fighter pilots who, for some reason, fought crime. I remember nothing else about the show but the theme is stuck in my head to this day.)
Wikipedia tells me that “Les chevaliers du ciel” was based on a bande dessinée, Les Aventures de Tanguy et Laverdure, by Jean-Michel Charlier (writer of Blueberry) and Albert Uderzo (artist of Astérix). Pretty good heritage, I guess.
Am I wrong for thinking “The Sky Knights” sounds even cooler than “Aeronauts”?
I never watched the TV series, but I did have a couple of the French Michel Tanguy comic books (they were books, and in French), illustrated by the Asterix artist. Didn’t really understand the stories, but he drew really nice looking jets which was something I always felt Asterix lacked.
Meaning this, I assume?

Oh dear, all those imported kids’ TV shows from the period. The dubbed European ones got the period pop theme tunes (“On white horses…”); the Aussie ones got the sunshine.
That’s the one. A stone cold classic.
“Animals in Stress”?
Do tense goats sacrifice better or something?
This was the name of a real charity shop (in Minehead,
DorsetSomerset I think).Minehead is in Somerset. I have been there 😉
but not to the charity shop about which I have no idea
I’ve been there too, I’m going to go back and change my comment, I’m very tired, very very very tired.
Animals In Distress is a real thing. There’s one in Torquay

Lovely set of knees at 2:27.
Although I’m a little worried that at 2:02 and at 3.22 he urges us not to forget the safety rules…. at no point has he told us the safety rules!! What are the safety rules?!
If Billie’s sex bag won’t be used this arc looking forward to many moons from now when it pops up again as a Chekovs gun of some sort.
US country music is incredibly popular in our rural areas.
Ours too!
Especially the south-west. For some reason.
Artful evasion of the question with a friendly embrace, Mags.
Probably being rich ruined Maggie’s social life for years.
Haha! Doesn’t it always???
I volunteer to have my social life ruined.
By becoming rich, I suppose?
Being without income for the past year, I’ve been mining John’s comics online. Having been a fan of Giant Days, I was delighted to find Bad Machinery and the Bobbins/SCR universe free content scattered about the web. I think I’m caught up now (rats, can’t binge any more) and look forward to more Steeple. This time next month I’ll have disposable income again and will be purchasing Steeple vol 1&2, as well as the last half of Wicked Things. Thanks, John for the high quality entertainment you’ve provided!
I’m jealous. Now I’m going to go back and start all over again. Shelley and Amy here I come!
I tried recently, but it was slightly bewildering trying to follow an accurate path.
there weren’t “Shelley and Amy” back then
back back then
They were part of the original Bobbins.
Yes, but not the main protagonists, and they didn’t even start the ‘other side’ Tackleford stories.
There were Tessa and some other girl tackling the sentient chtonic gas. Or maybe I’m remembering it all completely wrong.
