I find it humorous that John and Paul wrote that song specifically for Ringo, and very carefully kept it within his vocal range. Which was admittedly not very wide.
And then Joe Cocker comes along only a few years later and sings it in what is probably the greatest cover of all time. So good that the The Beatles couldn’t even be mad about it. Paul McCartney later said “…it was just mind blowing, totally turned the song into a soul anthem and I was forever grateful for him for doing that.”
It’s good, I’ll grant you that, and better than the original. However there are plenty of covers that are better than the original. Is it “The best cover ever”? I don’t think so. It’s an emotional cover, but ultimately deciding what is “the best” is a subjective exercise. There is no universal agreement.
If you don’t have 101 silver bullets, you’ll end up with 99 red balloons. True fact!
(Because you died.)
([The balloons are red with your blood, in case that wasn’t clear.])
I dunno, I feel like a mad wolf would have been less hairy.
Adorable, kind Billie♡. Looks like this adventure make become her and Brian more friends than before.
And all’s well that ends well!
Except for, you know, the £100,000 in damages or so that Brian caused when he was a mad wolf and all.
Maybe the Church of Satan has werewolf insurance?
Thank you for the Carl and the Passions reference. I imagine Billie, with all her Ringo fandom, must carry a torch for early ’70s rock music.
Well, it was Ringo who sang “I get by with a little help from my friends.”
…that help being from his friends Paul and John.
We are but two short weeks from exploring this dynamic further.

All respect to Joe Cocker, but Johnny Cash’s ‘Hurt’ is the greatest cover of all time.
Sad to see that neither of you have listened to the work of Nick Knowles off DIY SOS, the leading covers act in the world “today”.

Nick Knowles is a singular talent. How does he remember all the words?
Love the detail here. Even though Billie is chipper, up and at em’ you can still see bags under her eyes from the ordeal of wrangling Brian in.
I suspect she’s always perky, no matter how worn down she is.
All this talk of sticking by your friends and helping them out of supernatural jams isn’t going to sit well with Tom.
This is why silver bullets are sold in lots of one hundred and one.
I believe that this is what the 1989 hit “101” by Sheena Easton is about.
(Due to Can Con rules you may have had a slightly different pop-funk song sung by a woman from Winnipeg)

Billie, close your robe!!!!!
She’s got legs and she knows how to use them.
