That’s a cheerful thought
When this story started, did you imagine, even for a second, that this is where it would end, with collusion between a robot and a battling priest? No. No you did not and that is why you keep coming back despite the fact that webcomics on web sites are old hat.
I indeed did not imagine this story. Granted, the title of the story may have involved a bit of misdirection. 😀
Some might even call it *calculated* misdirection.
Well done as always, Mr. A!
This is steeple, so I was fully ready for it to just be a devil car. But Garret being a really cool transformer who gets the reverend’s whole deal was completely unexpected and still just as accepted as “it’s a demon car”
Gareth’s not a Transformer! He’s a Generic Non-Trademark-Infringing Form-Changing Robot. Very different things. (Though really, if the Bat-like Man or “The Kit + The Wolf” didn’t bring the lawyers in, this probably wouldn’t, either.)
Gareth is the Reverend’s secret weapon! Like Supergirl used to be for Superman (okay, that’s actually a bit before even MY time, but still…)
(flash forward three months, as Billie eyes Gareth suspiciously) “Wa-a-ai-ait a moment. This is a Hyundai, and it hasn’t broken down in the past 90 days? That doesn’t sound right.”
Hope You Understand Nothing’s Driveable AND Inexpensive.
Not gonna lie: I was more than half suspecting a Charlene/Skids car wash scene with Maggy and Gareth before this storyline was up.
I’d say hope remains, but if that crops up while he’s incognito… that just makes it creepy. >.<
(Or, ya know, a Charlene/Skids car wash scene with the Rev and Gareth, but I think THAT scene would put both Maggy and Billy in the hospital.)
Steeple is NOT just about lewd themes!
That was supposed to be a reply to the car wash thread but it will have to stand on its own, alas.
It stands very well on its own!
It’s not gonna work, Billie will figure it out real quick… she will find a way to make Gareth talk eventually
this story made me realize that amstrad is a real company. before last week i imagined it was a genuine john allison invention (still possible but seems unlikely)
It does seem that John has greatly enhanced its influence and market saturation compared to our world.
Amstrad was bought by Sky and make all the Sky TV set top boxes. This is big business! I’m sure they could make a rocket. Out of set top boxes.
That would certainly explain the outcome of the launch.
I mean… I bought the entire library-bound Giant Days set, having never read a page of it.
My wife is getting irritated with me as I keep wanting to share bits from it with her, when I’m able to breathe.
Kinda expect the unexpected at this point.
I understand completely Rimbo. I just received the set last week, they still are in their bubble wraps. I have not the chance to deep dive and the wife is all upset it is stacked by the night stand along with a comic. ‘WHY haven’t you read these, it is making a mess’ “Don’t mess with me! YOU should read them!” ‘What are they about?’ “Don’t know, but I am giddy with hope!”
Also just received my copies. I participate in a weekly comic draw jam over Zoom where participants sometimes show comics by others they’ve recently read or purchased, and so I unboxed my copies of Giant Days on camera in the Zoom meeting. (Only had time to read the first three stories so far.)
How do you order these?
There are seven volumes, they’re being issued one a month from this month – all booksellers have them available.
Since Gareth’s idea of a good time was staying motionless in an old barn, gathering cobwebs and staring at a blank wall, I doubt being “just a car” would ever bore him. To the opposite, might be too frantic for his tastes.

We hoped it would, John. We hoped
Gareth knows the demographic.
Also, webcomics on websites are forever!
Webcomics on web sites are definitely not old hat, and the reasons I have followed you since the Scary-Go-Round days are legion.
I love this relationship so much!
I am hoping and dreaming of a continued series with the Rev and Gareth in the manner of Knight Rider but fighting supernatural monsters and demons together (kind of like Baywatch Nights)
However there would be no requirement for the cast to wear only swimsuits…
Just wait. In a couple days we’ll find Gareth is easily defeated by a traffic cone.

But I love old hat!
