No end of misery
I think this story really came into its own when I decided that Reverend Penrose would try in vain to twist the robot’s head off. It all flowed from there, backwards and forwards.

So… am I the only one who hears Stephen Moore’s voice?
I did not remember the actor’s name, but that is exactly the voice I heard.
I’ve been listening to the audiobook of Neil Gaiman’s “Don’t Panic” at the moment, and yes. That’s exactly what I heard.
First thing I thought of when I read that!
I read a hybrid of Stephen Moore (whom I didn’t know until this moment) and Alan Rickman.
I didn’t know his name but I definitely read it in his voice.
I can only hear Shaun Ryder from the Happy Mondays.
You’re twisting my melon, man!
Frankly, the automotive-specific cyber changer does not exactly look like Pan Tau to me.
The only voice you should hear when you imagine the voice of the robot is Mike Bubbins.
So Ringo Starr’s voice is wrong?
I thought Rhys Darby, personally.
That’s GLEMM in Solver
WOW this changes him for the better even
Could also be Marvin the Paranoid Android. He does sound a little depressed.
Yeah I just realised – Stephen Moore.
Marvin is what I heard.
I am hearing Richard Moore, MI6.
Rev. Penrose never feels as alive as when he’s got something to try and kill.
Let’s do the twist
Has Reverend Penrose never seen a cow? Or a goat? Does he attack them on sight as well?
Living in Cornwall, I’m fairly certain he’s seen both of those before. Possibly even before the urge to attack the unknown had formed.
Ya see, cows and goats are supposed to have horns…
One could reasonably argue that Anime-style giant robots (including, but not limited to Unbranded Cyber Changers) are also supposed to have horns. At least most of them seem to.
Technically, cars are supposed to have horns as well, but admittedly a different sort of horn.
Goats are probably not safe. It’s well-established that they’re the most Satanic animal.
Ahead of black cats?
Absolutely, but bucks only, and preferably with a black coat.
Well, black cats would go to the top if they also sported horns.
According to Jack, yes. I assume he looked it up on Bing.
and Vikings
Lovely Spam! Wonderful Spam! Spam, Spam, Spam…
The Reverend is … single-focus
Given that she was the only one who recognized Mr. Secret Sentai for what he was, I wonder if Billie will recognize at least the general pop culture type of the automaton they’re dealing with here.
Rest assured.
She recognizes it as the missing third Gallgher brother from Oasis, Zeppo?
Seriously. Penrose has a fixation on killing what he thinks is the evil one. But this time it seems that for the other it’s almost a sort of pleasant massage… I wonder if this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Well, both seem to have a similarly grim fatalistic outlook on most things.
I hate to say it, but I’ve never seen a Hyundai do this.
Well it’s not a *standard* feature, that’s for sure.
I would pay a lot for this feature.
I winder how much the “suicidal ideation” option costs?
I would pay something for this feature, but not a LOT. I’m not MADE of money.
You have to ask for the special “Unbranded” version with the special order “Cyber Changer” amenity.
Interesting that Billie refers to the unbranded cyber changer as “it” while the Rev goes for “he”. You may get your head twisted off, but he respects your personhood.
Interesting. I read it more as Billie trying not to assume a gender. One might think a robot wouldn’t choose it/its pronouns, but there is at least one fictional example I can think of who does: Murderbot.
Well, I wanted to pontificate about which gender a “murderbot”, namely an entity committing murder by mechanical force would most likely have. But then my grandma grew up in LaPorte, IN along with Belle Gunness, and the latter did employ a cleaver for some of her deeds, though she probably used poison for the bulk of the bodies that were later dug up on her premises.
My grandma hated the aisle in the La Porte town history museum dedicated to Belle Gunness, and my mother instructed me to specifically remark on it should she drag us to the museum when visiting.
Sometimes real life is more sordid than Steeple.
Respect for the Murderbot Diaries reference!
Meanwhile
This may be my most favouritest page of artwork I’ve ever seen from John A, and I’ve seen a huge lot of same.
Sheer genius.
Obviously the Rev would prefer it to be shear genius.
Cracking page!
He’s just trying to get hold of that pack of Werther’s Originals.
Plus the string-back leather gloves!
Lost treasure.
Can’t really blame the reverend tbqh the logic is sound
Certainly most sound! The fewer axioms you work with, the sounder the logic. And the reverend certainly makes do with very few axioms.
What about Stephen Fry’s voice coming out of the robot?
I think he’d quite like to be a Hyundai Transformer.
(I think it’d be great.)
I can understand why the giant mecha would write “MEANWHILE” on the ground with its finger while an excited clergyman is attempting to behead it, but why would they do so with the word pointing away from themselves, I wonder?
The generic cyber changer is pointing the word to a potential reader, letting the world know that WHILE the Reverend may be a man of God, his current actions are definitely MEAN.
The text is facing away because the unbranded cyber changer has very low self esteem.
Quite the opposite: it proves it has self-reflection!
I like this robo-guy already. Hashtag #relatablecontent, amirite?
Maybe this car is a devil Decepticon on the run. It has horns.

And how many times did they have that conversation?
