HOORAY! Brian will be in the second part too! Love to see how the symmetry of the cover still respect the position of the tattoos. But I’m afraid Penrose will suffer a lot in this chapter.
To be fair, there was that time back in Steeple Vol.1 #4 in the Victoria where a witch’s pet monkey hissed at him, and he wanted to bite its head off. But he didn’t actually do it!
I can’t decide whether this cover looks more psychedelic or surrealist (I think I’m leaning more the latter. The Champagne bottle looks more evocative of Interwar Europe). Either way I dig it and can’t wait for more! Rev. Penrose looks like he’s having some revelation there and not the pleasant kind.
I appreciate that even though the characters are mirrored, the tattoos are still in the correct (non-symmetrical) places. Little details like that make me happy.
I thought it was Brut 33, rather than Brut 19. I’m hoping it is used as a toiletry, rather than Brian’s favourite tipple (or maybe he’s a Hai Karate man). Time for a rousing chorus of “Tits and Grease”…
As gas as I can see, only the line on left-side Maggie’s arm is not reproduced on the right side. Can’t imagine what that means, as the line is not part of her usual tattoo display.
it’s not just a mirroring – it’s as if you’re seeing the character twice, once from each side (see Rev’s face for example, since he’s not actually mirrored, just centered.) — the multiplied man returns!
Sublimely sinister, sultry Steeple story symmetry, sir.
Probably also seriously subliminal.
Situations! That man is in a Situation!

Brian is a sweetheart. Crude, rude, and inappropriate. But, still, a sweetheart.
I have never seen a scintilla of malice from him directed at anyone, anytime, no matter how richly they deserve it.

Tattoos yes, but not the positions of partings and otherwise asymmetrical hairstyles

Cologne
I thought it might be a world cup for some imagine sport. Champagne or cologne def makes more sense.

Agree. It’s a great touch.
Dull Lud?
Rev evokes reverse cover
Party trap.
Race fast, safe car!
Wow. Well done.
Nice try, but “Rev evokes reverse cover” doesn’t quite work 😉
True! Though don’t let me stop you if you’d like to craft a better one… 😁

Maybe Brian’s been meeting some fellas who’ve got some sweaty stuff going on in a gym.
I think it’s meant to indicate “Steeple Issue No. 19” than the vintage.
Seems all the lineart duly passes the flip test. Looking good.

“As FAR as”

I have an urge to print this out and see if it’s a secret Al Jaffee MAD Fold-In?
Just fold your monitor in half. Ezpz!
Let us know what you find!
