Like one of those Japanese trains
I’ve got some Brut video for you today. Now here’s a Britain lost to the ages. It was a toss-up between Barry Sheene and Kevin Keegan’s appearances but this one was a lot less likely to end with the guest sportsman and Cooper kissing in a shower. Barry is putting a lot of Brut on. Thank goodness he’s got such a big bottle. Just amazing.
Will Brut turn the Reverend back into a brute?
Also, very intrigued by the single-word titles for the (brief) final Steeple story!
They look a bit like a list of Nine Inch Nails song titles, I thought.
I can tell you right now that on 15/02/24 I will *not* be happy that Steple concludes.
unless it means you’re going to get round to finishing NEMS… 🙂
So, this entire story has been… a Brut advertisement? “Brut! The only thing strong enough to revive a sea monster-fighting priest who’s been hexed by witches!”
Better than a Hostess advert.
“‘Tis better to reign in hell… than to go a day without fruit pies!”
— ANTONIO SMITH, Forensic Linguist
(It took me way too long to find that page.)
That is a deep cut
No kidding. I did not remember that one at all.
“Eat delicious flaky fruit-filled pies as you willst!”
I now have a strong desire to see john do a series a single-page ads in the style of the old Hostess comic book ads featuring his own characters. Billie, Reverend Penrose, Des, Lottie, Shelley…
When smelling salts can’t tackle your torpor, get a Brut reboot!
But isn’t there something else in that Brut bottle? The Rev is next to be possessed…
Great. Now my life won’t be complete until I’ve found power-button-symbol contact lenses.
Yes, David is reset as he is beset.
That’s the easy task. I have an urgent compulsion to figure out which circuit that Brut ad was filmed on from about 5 seconds of footage.
That much Brut applied in a confined space — I’m surprised the camera crew’s union contract’s OH&S provisions allowed it.
To say nothing of that actress’ guild bylaws.
Better bring Brut to wither one’s warm willy.
That Brut has to be really powerful. But I don’t think Penrose will fight the witches, that’s Billie and Maggie’s role.
Just wait ’til Lorraine Lumsford gets there!
Oh, myyyy!
Maybe that’s how the parish is saved: Mrs. Lumsford is prepared to tattle to the bishop, until she confronts the Reverend only for the smell of Brut whisks her away to the Seventies and forgotten days of girlhood and she melts in gratitude.
Brian, like a bull through a locking charm.
I think it may have been a one-way locking charm, designed to stop Maggie and Billie from rushing in but powerless against someone barging *out*?
That’s what I was thinking.
Let’s all just hope that Brian doesn’t drink any of the Brut himself
It would make him more powerful than you could ever imagine.
Possibly powerful enough even to rival Baphomet?
Reminds me of my rugby club days, put me off gin for over 40 years.
The only thing he had in the world.
That does seem a bit exaggerated. After all, he also has a car/robot buddy.
And an enviable collection of melee weaponry.
That Brut must be strong, his whole brain reset.
The Brut is strong in this one. Leave him to me.
Who is Manuel?
A transmission?
Ah lav Mistah Fawlty, ‘e teach me everyfink ah kno.
“Manuel, I need more oil!” is from the Yacht Rock series from Channel 101. A DEEP deep cut. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EatDR9uHD3g&t=49s
Well spotted. I still say this line all the time
“Let’s do this. HALL AND OATES!!!”
I saw this episode and a RockDoc featuring Jack Black as Sergio Moirador and Maya Rudolph as Donna Summer and I’m still deeply confused and aroused at the same time. I’d say your work is done here.
I think Manuel Labor is the president of Mexico.
Who’s Henry? Mr. Clovis?
WATCH THE VIDEO JOHN
I can’t! My work’s proxy blocks it.
My ’70s British television attention slot was being taken up by the Third Doctor when I checked Steeple last night, so I didn’t play the video.
Is this why Mrs. Clovis keeps a bottle of Brut in the bathroom? It’s medicinal like smelling salts, cod liver oil, J Collis Browne’s and Brandy.
Is there anything else that reels weekdays forward as painless as STEEPLE after 2/15/2024? Any answers will be appreciated.
Depends on your speed. I have an RSS feed with about a dozen webcomics in it that update regularly. But my actual dailys stay I have remembered.
But none of them replace this, just are other parts of the package.
If you like humorous sci-fi, I’d recommend Spacetrawler by Christopher Baldwin. It updates 3 days a week, and just started a new storyline. There are several years’ worth of archives to go through, as well.

I gotta catch back up on Spacetrawler. I dropped it after the first big storyline, and then when I realized it was updating again, I was like six months behind.
Christopher Baldwin’s Bruno was my second webcomic read. Waiting for Bob was my first, and that brought me to Tackleford through a crossover, and so eventually to Tredregyn.
“One Way” was rather poignant, I thought.
Hah, my dad used to repeat that “Splash it owl ovah” line
A great way to freshen up.
(Just don’t get any on your sensitive bits; stings like the dickens.)
Lud definitely was sliming all over him a couple of pages back wasn’t she. Since John Campbell got us into the webcomic deep cuts above, that does put me in mind of a certain old page of Anders Loves Maria… which in turn leads me to find out that Rene Engstrom seems to have recently started reuploading those!
I just noticed that the reverend’s eyes turn into “power on” symbols in panel 5. These brilliant little touches make me happy.
“Hands off our precious priest” works alarmingly well to the tune of God Save the Queen
It’s not entirely clear for me if Clotilde lifted the blocking spell on the door, or if Brian is magic disrupting. Maybe both?
I think the spell only prevented the door from being opened from the other side.
Look what I found in the Real World

I’m still surprised when I find Internet Things in an actual shop.
(The translation for the Spanish edition is pretty good, kudos to the translator)
