I was assuming that they got a discount from Mrs. C. Then again, she might have charged a premium to Billie – fallen cleric surcharge or something like that.
Considering Billie’s about-face on employment, is she going to stick with the CoS for much longer? (‘Sure, I will pray to demonic entities for employment, but TV work? Harumph’)
Did monetary needs play a role in Billie joining the Church of Satan? Seriously, I don’t know. However, if she didn’t join for money, then having money shouldn’t affect her dedication (such as it is).
If the “Clotted Crime” producers want to film in Penrose’s Christian church, how much more will they want to film in Tom’s SATANIC church? You don’t find nearly as many of those around. Billie could broker that deal, present it to Tom as a fait accompli, and then reveal that she’s arranged for whatever CC pays to go directly to her as the official liaison, meaning she’s in charge of what that money is used for, including her own salary. I’m sure she will in fact not do any of that but she COULD. 🙂
I have been lax in filling myself in by getting Vol. I, which is where, as I understand it, Billie’s current employment status was established. From what I’ve “heard”, she is with CoS by supernatural duress.
I’m with Maggie here. Billie has everything to become a star☆, even an agent♡! But if even Maggie were taken would be the start of a great couple of actresses☆☆. Maggie could play the part of the lost woman who turns out to be good and Billie the part of the unsuspectable girl next door who is the real culprit of the heinous crime. Wait…
Mrs. Clovis would make a great first act suspect: a gruff old person a bit removed from village life who could exonerate herself but doesn’t because she doesn’t want to reveal [dark secret from her past].

Mrs C’s expression in panel 1 is definitely a charging-extra expression.
Or a “Darn it, can’t charge THEM… losing money here” expression.
‘Don’t expect this to be a regular thing.’
Mrs C will have given Maggie hers free and charged Billie full price on principle.
Maggie, never not stirring
…while Billie seems shaken…
Maggie’s the vodka, Billie the vermouth.
Tredregyn is the ice.
You were right, that outfit really is trying to do three things at once
And we’re here for all three of them
I kind of want Maggie’s fifth-panel quote on a t-shirt.
…I think I’ve pretty much ALWAYS sent Destiny to voicemail.
Dang, that’s a mood and a half.
I usually ask Destiny to hold and pass the call on to my wife. She handles these things.

Unless Billie can somehow get Tom kicked out of CoS (I have a feeling she’s not the only one that has issues with his leadership).
Imagine Billie running that church…
The mind boggles.
Or we will end up with a combined parish of both churches sharing the same building and Mrs Clovis burns it all down.

Tom could definitely play a “murderer and a milksop” in the same day if need be!

“someone stitched a load of holes together and surprised a fish with it”
I have utterly no clue what that means. And, apparently, neither does Google. Hm.
She’s talking about a fishing net, in reference to Tredregyn’s rich maritime heritage.
See also Reverend Penrose’s opinion on the area’s rich maritime heritage.
I’m waiting for the twist where the casting director looks at Billie and Maggie, says “meh,” but spots Mrs. Clovis and shouts “There’s our STAR!”
Oh my…. She’s PERFECT for that show!!!
Mrs. Clovis would make a great first act suspect: a gruff old person a bit removed from village life who could exonerate herself but doesn’t because she doesn’t want to reveal [dark secret from her past].
I’m surprised there hasn’t been a hot encounter with D.I. Renwick yet.
Realistically “THAT’S OUR HITLER!”
I really hope I can use that destiny line in real life sometime.
