How’s Satan doing, babes?
These two appeared in Steeple (original series) 4-5 and The Silvery Moon (here) and they always “spell” trouble. Alas, I think we will see them again before too long.

Wow, Clothilde cast a spell that worked! Or was that Ludmilla. It’s hard to tell them apart!
I suspect it’s a pretty minor spell. Maggie could probably have somehow resisted it if she’d been more prepared.
I get the sense that the hipster witches are actually quite good at the minor magic they specialize in.
Other things such as basic human goodness, respect for boundaries, and so on…these are not among their specialties.
A reminder that Maggie left a belief system with tangible evidence of its effectiveness (Satanism) for a belief system that…doesn’t have that. Kind of an odd choice, when you think about it. So don’t think about it.
No, she didn’t. The immediate catalyst for Maggie changing faiths was a mini-rapture. That was pretty tangible evidence for her.
:murmuring: And yet, the Satanists haven’t come close to winning. Frankly, a good baptism would clear up that little spell sensitivity of Maggie’s, there.
Also, I’m not sure these witches are in fact Satanists. That “How’s Satan doing, Babes?” sounds like they’re not. They probably practice some form of Wicca or something.
Just wait until they find out who replaced Maggie. I don’t think an “Elucidate” spell will be enough. Probably have to use “Enumerate” as well. Possibly “Concatenate.”
They’ll probably be appalled when they first find but like most of the COS (and to Tom’s constant irritation) I think Billie would be able to win them over.
(crackles knuckles, does a neck roll) “VLOOKUP”

grep… awk… sed.
(inscribed on a Word Wall in Skyrim)
Finally! Words I understand.
Indeed – we might run across them on or around the “It’s all go in Boscastle” episode.
“Why don’t you stay for a spell and chat?”
The use of colour in this one is fun. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Maggie dressed this drearily/quasi-clerically, and I assume that it wasn’t just because she knew she would be shopping at Super Drab (“you can have any colour you like as long as it is grey”) .
(through clenched teeth) AAAAAMMAAAAAAZZIIING
That was quick. Using a spell to coerce Maggie to tell them something she clearly didn’t want to talk about made me immediately dislike them.
These are the two hipster witches whose misdirected spell of doubt led Billie to Satan’s arms all the way back in Vol. 1 #5, for anyone lacking context.
Yes indeed. They also did a semi-botched job of curing Brian’s lycanthropy, as covered in The Silvery Moon.
Wait, these two are Maggie’s friends (sort of)? They are awful! Maggie totally made a leap forward becoming friend with Billie. Can’t wait to see what Billie will do to prove her satanic superiority to them.
Yes. They are awful.
I am guessing head girls at British schools can know magic as an alternative to mastering a fighting style.
Thanks to that ref link, I did a little archive dive, and what do we have here, but possibly the first appearance of the sesh gremlin? Perhaps before he was gremlinified,
oops, need the link
https://steeple.church/comic/the-usual/
Here he is again

Yes. In the comments, John actually refers to him as the “Sesh Gremlin”.
I suspect he was already a gremlin by that point.
I think that’s pretty much confirmed in the comments.
Damn. I use the word elucidate all the time and nothing like that ever happened.
You probably don’t use the right font.
Try expatiate. (But enunciate, lest it sound like exfoliate.)
So, Peasta eh? Pasta WITH Peas or Pasta made FROM Peas?
I suspect the latter.
I’m assuming it’s made FROM peas. I’ve eaten pasta made from peas- it definitely exists.
>pasta made from peas
BUT WHY!!! Even something GMO would be better :{
Pea-based pasta’s actually pretty good.
As opposed to, say, pee-based pasta.
Peasta, pasta and peas? Similar to pasta and beans, “pasta e fagioli”? (Pasta fazool in the right dialect)
a popular dish among the French Underground during the Second World War was ‘peasta resistance’.
If you’ll pardon the expression, witch one’s witch?
You mean, which witch is which?
Why do they all have circuit diagrams tattooed on their arms?
They’re podcasters
“𝔖𝔲𝔟𝔰𝔠𝔯𝔦𝔟𝔢 𝔫𝔬𝔴 (on Zambian, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts)”
Why has no one commented on the hipster witches um… canny ability to recognize Maggie from behind?
