The nightmare of the murder garage is over and Phili looks almost like a decent man? Weird… Scary… Suspicious… Maggie is confused and scared and I’m with her. There’s something fishy! I love the last panel. Maggie is on the defensive and looks scared and full of suspects. Billie looks sure of herself and ready to take over the world!
It’s by no mean my intent to challenge the artist’s work but…so, Les is a murderer? IMHO that should have been called to the readership’s attention earlier. But what do I know. 😐
Not sure if Les is a murderer per say. However it seems that he’s been on tours to hunt exotic animals, namely baboons. That seems to a sort of “outlet” for him and his darker impulses. I think he’d only kill people if only he could legally do it. https://steeple.church/comic/closest-thing-to-you-know/
We’re discussing darker impulses in a comic strip about SATANISM?
😉
Maybe that’s what’s going on here, John A is subverting something or another by having Satanists presume the absolute worst about someone with little to no proof in precisely the same way many people make such presumptions about Satanists.
Kind of as though real-world Satanists turned Qanon[or whatever the British equivalent might be]’s unwarranted accusations of cannibalism, pedophilia, human sacrifice, et cetera right back at them.
As far as I can tell, all we really seem to know about Les is that he’s a “radical right-winger”…just like the members of Qanon.
Les is clearly not liked by someone like Billie, but whether his murderous intent is real or just imagined is up to the reader to guess, I suppose. It depends on how seriously you take the locker-room talk about killing baboons. Meanwhile the guy who probably has killed something more than a Baboon is “Cornwall’s Number One Daddy” – Les is just acting creepy. If he could just act less creepy about wanting to kill, he could be Heathcliff too.
Sorry, but all I’m getting is that you’re telling us to consider Les to be terrifying without (so far as I can tell) offering us any particular reason to consider Les to be terrifying. I’m sure it’s just me.
This does genuinely seem to be something that exercises you and only you. He’s just an antisocial guy who has a commensurate rep in the community. I have spent all of 10 minutes thinking about this character outside of trying to draw him correctly. I have nothing else to say about him and he doesn’t appear again any time soon.
FWIW, I was once accused of a crime I didn’t commit. Kind of scarred me for life. Makes me a bit touchy when people (even fictional characters) are accused of crimes with no evidence. FWIW.
No one’s accusing anyone of a crime here. People talk this way about people they have “bad vibes” about. It doesn’t mean they’re actually accusing him of murder. Don’t take it literally.
Have a refreshing beverage, ronald, cool out. I find you will find very little in John’s work to offend you if you approach it in good faith. He is one of the best-hearted cartoonists as a writer I have ever followed.
I’m also guessing that this is a TV set and the removal of Pixy Garage is unfortunately temporary. However as repugnant as Pixy Garage is, it may be a necessary evil. I hate to think about what the owner would get up to without it.
The room contains several thousand female cockroaches. (The male cockroaches have their own room. Though, honestly, he hasn’t really been enforcing that. It’s kind of hard to tell them apart.)
How you can really tell the place will be different: Fresh Flowers.
Maybe it actually says “Fresh flowed”, meaning they can install gas-flowed cylinder heads: https://www.abbottsaab.com/product/gas-flowed-cylinder-heads-saab-9-5/
I thought it was Fresh Flame. Yours makes more sense.
Don’t sell yourself short. The phrase “an old flame” definitely implies the existence of a fresh one.
Sorry, Billie, I think this is, in fact, a more fictional universe intruding into your fictional universe.

No gas station owner is that outwardly handsome in real life. I’d say he’s an actor.
You’ll spot him among the village fete guests in Clotted Crime (The One Where The Vicar Did It) if you go back a month
Nice spotting!
IT’S JUST A SET FOR CLOTTED CRIME
It’s only a model.
This is actually a very tiny gas station that is right in front of their faces
Shhh!
I’m guessing the same thing.
I anticipate that endearingly gruff Phil will be crushed by a garage hoist or choked with a petrol pump within the first 20 minutes of the episode.
* petrol pump hose
Americans may know it as the “gasoline snake”
Can confirm.
The Devil isn’t nice, but He gets shit done
Our boi is an extra. Sure beats taking money from sesh gremlins
“the Murder Garage”

Ronald, you know how people say things in exaggeration for comic effect? It’s that.

Okay.
Reverend Axe Murderer, now HE’S terrifying. IMHO.

I just hope no-one has changed the ‘Females’ room. He set that room up specially for women, it’s a vital resource.
And also, I still want to know what’s in it!
Females, obviously.
Just What It Says On The Tin
Sticking with my original speculation – a bucket, a sponge, and a drain in the floor. If he’s feeling really generous, a bag of napkins.
The room contains several thousand female cockroaches. (The male cockroaches have their own room. Though, honestly, he hasn’t really been enforcing that. It’s kind of hard to tell them apart.)
Frankly, it will be like the men’s room, just different. Similar to how the rooms for pigs and cows differ in an abattoir.
That cute li’l smiling drop of petrol could set the fight against climate change back a decade.
(Yes, I ran this through Google Translate from the original Canadian “gasoline.”)
Starbucking, man.
Oh are those crewmen ever Titting About on Ladders! That does not look BLC compliant at all
Ha ha, true. I just hope the British Ladder Council don’t follow this comic, or John’s in for some complaints.
I deliberately drew the most unsafe looking ladder that I could!!! Non-BLC compliant!
So that is indeed string holding the two sections together. Good old British ingenuity!
Ha! My first thought when I saw that was “IATSE would be so up in the set director’s face about this.”
“BLC, what is your emergency?”
“Egregious titting-about in progress. We’ll need your best agents on this.”
“Phil,” the latest role for actor Scott Patterson, formerly “Luke Danes” on Gilmore Girls. Backwards cap, flannel shirt, beard stubble.

I went pure Luke with this guy – someone pointed out his trademark look as incongruous right at the start of this chapter!
“Crew” is a clue, I think. Billie’s got over-excited and is missing the details. Not like her 😀
I have much love for the first and final panels
Is that one of the Purley clan or at least some sort of mer-folk on the ladder?
Hey, Billie wished for jobs for everyone who wanted them, right?
“Jaded and insane” is what popped into my head, but is not accurate or what I actually think, but this is a super good page.
Of course, Phil’s full name is “Phil Rupp”.
Shouldn’t Super Phil have a cape or something?
