Disturbed
Maggie is experiencing deep turmoil here. To escape Cornwall by road or rail, there is no option but to go through Devon. And those guys could close the doors any time. Then it’d be Newquay Airport or nothing.

Welp, looks like the murder-theorists were probably right?
Maggie just lost her biological grandmother (who she hated), but she’s also afraid of having ruined the life of the one she had chosen as her grandma and whom she loves dearly. It’s not her fault that a ghost decided to possess her and make a big mess. But she thinks it’s…, poor Maggie! It’s nice to see that Billie will bring them together.
But.. but…. the prison scones will be prepared slightly differently! Nooooo…..
The pasties will be pasty.
They’ll be rounder, with the crimp at the top instead of at the side so you can’t hold it properly, and no knobbly bit to give to the Knocker, risking life and limb. They may even contain carrots. Monstrosity.
CARROTS!!!
Was out your mouth!
Maybe it’s not what we think! Maybe the disturbing of her patio created a sinkhole that collapsed the cottage, and so Mary’s in temporary housing, having lost all her possessions.
Maybe?
….
….
Yeah, it probably is the murder thing. ☹️
Honestly, it could go either way at this point, I think.
Our author is very good at misleading us! Do not forget this! 😀
Very nice bittersweet moment between Billie and Maggie. I’m guessing for Cornish folk, moving to Devon is a fate worst than death?
It’s like giving up.
Poor dears. It’s often the first time they’ve seen civilisation. The culture shock is too much and we have to treat them kindly.
“Look, are those lights?”
“Yes, dear. They come on when it’s dark.”
“Oooooh”
You see what we have to deal with?
No Maggie, it’s not your fault. It may be painful, but Mrs. Clovis will take you back. I’m sure she knows you didn’t intend for any of that to happen. It is possible to be mad at someone for something they did, but not to stop loving them.
And just for the record, I’m certain Mrs. Clovis didn’t murder anyone. It was justifiable homicide at worst.
There’s always the Joeystarr route.
Hmmm. Turns out there are no women’s prisons in Devon! The nearest is HMP Eastwood Park, up in South Gloucestershire…
So maybe Mrs. Clovis is in some other type of institution?
The Women’s Institute?
I’m not even going to try to guess. This could be something entirely different from what it seems. Or not.
That might mean Sean K’s suggestion above is on the right track?
Isn’t Dartmoor the most recognisable name of a prison in the UK? Minor detail if it hasn’t a women’s section.
“Strangeways” always a personal favourite
From frequency of appearance in UK media you can’t beat Wormwood Scrubs (but that’s men only). It was a big help that it was just down the road from the TV Centre at Shepherd’s Bush. For extra convenience, for hospital scenes, there’s Hammersmith Hospital right next door (I was a student there). I think of that place as the ninth Python (assuming Neil Innes and Carol Cleveland get higher billing).
Been a fan ever since Kate Bush wound up there after her failed bank robbery in “There Goes a Tenner”
HMP Dartmoor is Men’s only
If not aeroplane, then it’s time to take to the boats!
Maggie’s belt has a big superhero ‘M’ but that didn’t distract me from the anguish in that slide
Once again our Mr A has portrayed the characters wonderfully
Just as long as Mrs Clovis remembers it’s jam, then cream!
Let’s consider the possibility that “Clotted Crime” has gone back to filming in Devon and Mrs Clovis is the guest star. What happened was that they found something like a fantastic Viking hoard under the back patio, she became a celebrity, and the producers made her an offer she couldn’t refuse.
As good a guess as any other… I guess?
It’s difficult to think of an offer that couldn’t be refused by someone who found a fantastic Viking hoard under their back patio. They wouldn’t have to scramble after fiscal opportunities.
Depends on whether the back patio belonged to Mrs Clovis or to the parish.
Why would Maggie feel guilty about that, though?
Good question. Perhaps not having Mrs Clovis around any longer was the deciding factor for the Reverend to move away?
Fun fact: Wales and West Utilities has four bases in Devon and one in Cornwall. We’re not really that small.
I remember last time I was in Cornwall we drove over into Devon and I was surprised to see that the Ginsters factory is actually there, not in Cornwall. Tsk.
The main one is, it’s in Callington.
Not, I should stress, that Ginsters count for anything anyway
I swear, the dripping tease that this issue has been…… down right Satanic
I know that you meant the “Devon” reference for Devon, England.
What you probably don’t know that it also applies to Devon, PA.
