In Steeple volume 1, Reverend Penrose falls afoul of witches. I don’t think it’s happened since. He doesn’t do well with them, and tends to steer clear.

These ladies missed the lesson on practicing safe hex.
Rev Penrose will take up the challenge. Yes?
Uh, oh. (It actually took me a moment to see what was going on in the second to last panel.)
Surely it’s better for Penrose to go away. But I would love to see him stay at the seance and face the two annoying witches. Sad to see Maggie destroy that beautiful hairstyle.
I don’t think he’ll have a choice. Look carefully at the second to last panel. There’s a spell being cast.
Admittedly I haven’t read their encounter in Vol. 1, but I’d have thought that the Armour Of The Lord would make the Reverend immune to witchery or at least give him a saving throw against enchantments. Daniel in the den of the lions, and all that. If nothing else, Penrose’s generally misanthropic attitude should also improve his resistance – if he starts finding himself feeling relaxed and amenable around someone, he immediately knows that something’s wrong!
I think this kind of minor spell’s probably most effective if the target is otherwise distracted and not really paying attention, as is the case here. Although, having recognized the “whiff of sulphur”, maybe he’s actually on his guard? Also, I don’t beleive Reverend Penrose actually met these two before (unless there’s something I’ve forgotten). Mrs Clovis was alone when she encountered them, and the Reverend was… otherwise engaged that night, if memory serves.
Either way, havoc is likely to ensue…
It’s made pretty clear in Steeple Vol. 1 that the good Reverend is at least -5 vs Witches.
Even Clo and Lud are nothing (so far) compared to what happened to Penrose in Volume 1!
The Reverend strikes me as the kind with a fairly high Will save.
When the name “Warm Willie” was mentioned previously, who knew it would be used in a double entendre?!
*Willy
Guilty.
It appears to be a real drink. Judging by the recipe, not a good one.
I guffawed at the last panel.
I have a feeling Rev. Penrose might get tempted into reaching out to his friend now a fish-man and whereabouts unknown to him.
That lady has cats eyes.
What is Billie frantically searching for on her phone?
If she’s googling ‘warm willy’, I hope she has safe search on.
From her thought in the last panel, I’d say she and Maggie came up with a list of what to do if a variety of things happened. That way, they’d be able to take control of the situation and keep Maggie on the straight and narrow. Unfortunately, having the Reverend drop in was not on the list.
I’ve only just connected Billie scrolling in the first panel with the last panel; I was distracted by the incredibly emotive depiction of Maggie
Are Clo and Lud part of the Modron Sabbat?
They first appeared during that storyline.
“You can’t go without a warm willy inside you!” As the actress said to the magistrate…
Why is Maggie taking her hair down?
Because her hair style’s coming apart. In that first panel, it’s wilting.
Oh. I thought of that but it seemed too simple… so then I was guessing, she had seance trick tech stored in it but was afraid the Rev would spot it. Or something.
You could be right, for all I know.
As noted a couple of strips ago…
Ruh-roh!

>can’t go without a warm willy
Really, exactly what are you trying to get inside of whom :}
