In Japanese culture it’s traditional to take off one’s footwear when entering a home. Either the “alien” is Japanese or–and bear with me here–this is actually an “outer space” custom that was just adopted by the Japanese. Connect the dots, people!
Also, Monday’s episode: “Wandering probe”? Sounds suggestive. “Is that your wandering probe or are you just glad to see me?”
To be fair, given that Jim Davis has at this point actually done a guest strip for Bloom County where Bill the Cat is acknowledged to be Garfield’s illegitimate kitten, your risks are probably much lower than they would have been in the 80’s.
Then you never saw 1960s Batman with Adam West and Burt Ward. In one episode Robin exclaims “Holy priceless Etruscan snoods!” The show was very educational.
Snooooood! That video game was totally addictive. I had it on a long-dead PC. It’s probably still around, but I’m a recovering addict and daren’t go near games now.
Oh and when I was a little girl, snoods were definitely hair bands. Times change.
Love the slippers.
So, it is really a Japanese superhero! Maybe a 13 years old pilot of SuperRobot. Maggie expressions are beautiful. Especially the “FLIP” in panel two.
Rev. Penrose and Maggie should team up as “Rood and Snood”!
As I always say, you can’t spell “snood” without “sod”.
Loving the Alien?
The man who fell to Earth

Snood’s Corner, in the Snood District? My favorite!
Kitty slippers!! AND disco boots! I am all about the footwear is this episode.
Orange cat. Lasagna cat. Those are Garfield slippers!
“Garfield-like entity” for copyright reasons.

They’re probably a holdover from Maggie’s Satanist days, Garfield being a creation of the Evil One.
Snood? Isn’t that a kind of hair net?
It’s sort of… a turtleneck without the sweater?
I think when the ladies make them here they call them ‘cowls’
I found the hair thing when I looked it up on Google. And a video game. It took awhile before I found the neckwear.
I had never even heard the word before last night.

I saw all the Batman episodes, but I was a little kid at the time and don’t remember Etruscan snoods. Should have paid closer attention!

is Maggie…not wearing pants?
Pants? No. “Smalls,” maybe.

Nothing beats a good snood on a blustery day.
It was only a couple of decades back that I learned that ‘sod’ was not a reference to a type of soil…. and that some folks still took offense to it.
