We’ve waited long
Cool to see Shelley fans in Tredregyn finally getting the chance to meet their hero. Better to wait until the next day than risk an awkward encounter with a worn-out Winters, eh?

How is the moon waxin’ these days?
I wish there was a WordPress widget I could run above Steeple strips that showed the current phase of the moon in the comic as a sort of “Brian warning”, but rest assured that lunar matters are addressed during this story.
Move over, Belial, demon lord of doubt and self-loathing!
Meet Ringo Starr, demon lord of affability, passable drumming, and lucking into a goldmine with three people who are way more talented than you are.
Ringo’s a great drummer!
Agree. When other drummers praise him, you know he’s got something.
Yep. There’s a reason the Beatles didn’t really take off until Ringo joined. You can’t have a great band without a great drummer (braces for responses listing exceptions).
He must be — after all, he’s better than Best.
Fair.
It appears he wrote “Octopus’ Garden” as only his second piece of songwriting ever, as well.
My apologies to Ringo. I’ll be at midnight Mass to sing “You’re Sixteen” as my penance.
Considering the undersea horrors the seas around Tredregyn spawn, perhaps these folk are agents of Shelley’s old arch-enemy, the Portuguese Man-o-War!
Of course, after all the time travel, Shelley only knows Ringo as the nice old man on the children’s train show, and maybe a bit of trivia that he wrote a song for Spongebob Squarepants or something.
Come to think of it, from the last comic where we saw Shelley, almost nobody should know who Ringo Starr is. Maybe this story occurs after the yet-to-be created conclusion of Destroy History: NEMS!
And then there’s “The Beetles”, at the end of another storyline involving time travel.
If Shelley is into her writing career, she’s left the Civil Service job. So we can probably imagine that she eventually dealt with the Evil of Cilla in some as-yet-untold epic.
Some beers, a discussion about Ringo and the two are become like sisters ♡. I love Billie’s totally free face in panel one♡. She’s so happy, free, evil♡♡♡!! The family at the end… Shelley has so many mortals enemies that’s it’s really hard understand who is behind this plans.
Who was it who said, “you are known by your enemies.” Churchill I think.
Well her enemies are legion.
I’m not sure I would classify Billie as evil. She’s definitely more of a libertine now, but still desires to do as much good as possible. And it looks as for the time being she’s choosing Ringo Starr over Satan.
Billie definitely isn’t evil. She always puts others before herself.
Indeed. It’s why she such a great foil against Tom who is at the very least a raging narcissist.
I’m happy she’s able to do it♡.
Shelley is no longer being attacked by the Horror Out of Time (her potential stepdaughter), so her enemies may no longer be so effective. Come to think of it, to avoid temporal paradoxes, she needs to return to her legal studies sometime.
The drippy fingers in Panel5 are a little disturbing.
Very messy pub food? I’m surprised ‘mam’ isn’t handing him a napkin!
A man and a woman. A son and a mother. Mad Terry and his mother?
Not likely. If you look two strips back, you’ll see that Mam, sporting the hat that says Furleys, has a fine wavy beard. And while Mad Terry’s Mum may be exceptional, hirisute she is not.
Ah. Clearly only one of them is wearing a Purleys hat, so that checks out.
If they were the Silver Beatles they would have had a metallic sheen to them had they kept that name.
Ringo also got lucky in movies and it love too. Luck was just dripping off of him. Good luck that is.
Few indeed are the people lucky enough to be kidnapped by Leo McKern, at least without waking up in Portmeirion
You are Number Six!
Who is Fabulous Four?
Not being British, I am uncertain whether the correct response is, “I am not a name; I am a Free Number!” or “Number One is in the Loo.”

I hope the murder victim isn’t Shelley.
I think more bars should have “The Evening Draws On” written on their floorboards, as a reminder of the fleeting nature of existence
You were so close to a haiku!
The evening draws on
The artist draws on the floor
Hope Shelley survives.
I like how in this example, ‘Shelley’ could be interpreted as the kigo, implying the season (winters).
Solid haiku knowledge. Respect.
I am certain that the friendly ginger kitty will protect Shelley
I just hope inebriated Shelley doesn’t trip on the cat and fall down the stairs.
…or trip UP them…
The Ginger Minx is well guarded by the Ginger Cat. I’ve no worries at all.
She senses trouble.
Shelly and Billie is a disastrous duo. I hope we get to see more of them together.
The story behind those folks who are interested in Shelly must be deep if they’ve been “waiting long” for her to appear. Tibbikins must be a powerful force if he can bring Shelley to fame and fortune and arrange a book signing in Tredregyn to fulfill a prophecy.
I will be utterly amused if all that transpires from the foreshadowing of Panel 5 is an enthusiastic request for an autograph!
Sometimes it’s the little things, like contrasting saturation, say a lot about a scene. Nothing in this chapter so far has come close to Shelley’s high saturation, and these fans of Winters are particularly low saturation. Maybe it has something to do with Shelley’s Kinemacolor trust falls with Nemulon… (because surely in the altered timeline Kinemacolor didn’t fail before Technicolor started up)
Shelley’s always been a colorful character.
I’m glad my saturation efforts have been noticed, it’s meant to highlight Shelley’s “star power”.
I noticed your saturation efforts back during the Secret Sentai showdown, too. Much enjoyed how it helps convey the oppressed/uplifted mood there.
I just finished Giant Days 13 in which Esther visits Shelley in London where she’s working at the Ministry of History! Imagine my delight!!!!! Two Shelley storylines at the same time.
