Something like that was my first thought too:
Either these are some entirely new characters – or John A. transplanted them from one of his more obscure projects…
The Robert Cop characters who were reused for other projects were the original Professor character from Robert Cop (reused as Shelley’s Dad), the uniformed lady cop (whose name I have forgotten) who became Jane in By Night, and the police captain, though I changed his design, became DI Dennison in Wicked Things. That I can’t remember the names of these characters speaks to the fact that I am not particularly au fait with Robert Cop any more! It is only the true fans (the ROBERT COPTERS) who keep the flame, I haven’t even renewed the domain name.
Well, I’m all in / put it up on the board
Another rapper shot down from the mouth that roared
1-2-3 down for the count
The result of my lyrics / oh yes, no doubt
Cold rock rap / 49er supreme
Is what I choose and I use – I never lose to a team
(That’s enough for the joke, but I could go on. Damn that was a heavy album.)
Escaping through the fete, with it’s veritable maze of tombolas, cake stalls, old biddies, tea and scones, skittles, whack-the-rat and the slippery pole?
Devious!
Just posting to advise anyone reading this who missed Friday’s cover image for this story to hit the “previous” button. This is a cover that should be seen.
“Manjul,” eh? That’s the pen-name of a prominent Indian political cartoonist, who is in the process of getting cancelled in his home country.
It’s also a popular boy’s name, apparently.
I wonder what’s in store for this character.
Hard boiled police detectives working the clergy homicide beat – it’s CoE Murders, this fall on Channel 4.
Did I just stumble upon a lost episode of Robert Cop here?
Ha! My first thought as I read this was, “Which one is Robert Cop?”
Robert Renwick, perhaps? Neither Sam nor Manjul look like Roberts, besides they already have their own first names.

Truth is we all love Robert Cop
Penrose’s secret criminal past??? NICE!!!!!!!! Great start!!!
Good theory!! What we can see of his lower 3/4 does look oddly young.
Yes, he’s suspiciously slender for Reverend Penrose. Billie’s as-yet unseen predecessor, perhaps?
Dammit, I was going to say that. Can’t recall his name.
Maybe it’s a flashback?
Oh, wait, that’s what you were saying. I’m sorry, it’s still kind of early here… 😐
WELCOME ON BOARD!!!
And these people’s clothes and hairstyles look like came out of “Twin Peaks” or some other crime show between the 80s and 90s.
Just let ’em check out the DNA from the blood on that hatchet. Doubt that it’ll match Ms. Trewithen’s.
Or any other human’s.
Goes without saying, but she’s the delectable corpus here.
What goes on?

That should have been:
WELLLLLLLLLL
fascinating album, like a halfway point between 1st and 2nd gen rap…
This is Midsomer, isn’t it
Innit?
Dalziel and Pascoe.
Scarpers, Montgomery!
Straight into another story? We’re so spoiled!
Renwick: Let’s… *puts on sunglasses* put a collar on that priest.
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

If we didn’t know their names, I would have suspected this was John Pride and Ian Prejudice.
D.I. Renwick is obviously a gentleman of refinement. Look at his raised pinky as he holds the evidence bag!
Hey, it just occurred to me that John broke one of his own rules — he used the last line as the title of the episode!
Can’t blame him, though. It’s the perfect title.
I don’t think he had much choice, this time.
A fatal mistake.

Agreed! Though it does imply a degree of gravity in this story.
Indeed, that and the talk among the agents of murder suggest that this is probably going to be a pretty dark run.
The coppers presume his guilt; it’s a fete accompli!
Boo! Well done 🙂
The (Generationally diverse) plod! Framed Priesthood! Chase scenes!
And Lottie has departed the scene, just as things slot most definitely into her wheelhouse. Such is life.
Well, it’s 3×3 grid now so I suspect serious weirdness.
