Happy New Year!!!
Have you seen the new year?
Live your life in such a way as to merit someone bringing you cocoa as needed.
…or bringing you back from the dead, as the case may be
So, they can’t see Jason. Will others perhaps be able to? Or is he really ‘just’ a ghost?
I think David sees him, he just thinks he’s not real. On the previous page, he says he thinks he’s cracking up, because he’s been seeing Jason everywhere. I think he thinks Jason’s presence is all in his head. I think Jason probably left before Maggie arrived (or maybe he hid somewhere when he saw her coming).
Or maybe THIS Jason was metaphorical or just in his head, whereas the ones that we have already seen NOT in his presence are clearly real
Now in the clear light of day (and Pete’s insightful comment below) I can see that it might be Maggie’s figure Penrose is seeing as Jason. Or he could still be addressing the tombstone. Because why wold he be seeing Jason as a red-eyed ghoul…
Awww, Maggie, you really ARE on the side of the Angels now.
Didn’t Jason morph into Maggie with cocoa?
Oh, the similar hand positions. Very nice touch.
Match cut, nice!
I think it’s supposed to imply that it was Maggie all along, but in his head, the Rev was seeing Jason’s ghost.
That does sound like a decadent drink. I imagine that one could make hot cocoa using only the Cadbury Flake and some hot milk. Adding the Flake to existing cocoa would be quite chocolaty.
Good thing Mrs.Clovis isn’t around, though I can imagine her making exceptions for cocoa.
Don’t kid yourself. Dollars to donuts Mrs. Clovis made the base drink on which the fully magical potion was constructed.
Poor Penrose. He looks so sad and tormented. Seeing how worried Maggie is and how much she cares about him is so beautiful. I can’t think of anything sweeter than someone bringing hot chocolate to a sad friend sobbing in a cemetery♡.
Am I a fool to ship Penrose and Maggie this hard?
Maggie seems to be shipping it hard.
No, it’s the best thing to do♡.
No, you’re right to do it they are filling me with so many feelings
Two more ace Maggie expressions in the last two panels.
Ah so Jason has optional visibility, explaining how Billie didn’t see him by the door. Apologies for accusing you of cubism, John.
During the break I bought a new tablet (my former one bit the dust over a year ago when I didn’t have an income to replace it) and started reading the 1st Steeple series. It’s interesting to read since I’ve seen what comes after the 2nd series already.
Ooh, a Scrabble letter mug! And appropriately branded for the Rev’s first name. That’s a surprising intimacy. Did it come from Penrose’s personal mug cache, or is Maggie being cheeky?
Forgot that my own Scrabble-obsessed icon would come up when I used my login…
I scroll here hoping for insight into the D2 mug, and here you are, answering the unasked questions 🙂
Spectre of the drowned! But probably not Jason, just a creature able to assume the necessary appearance for torment. Makes me think of the role of Mermaids in traditional lore.
