CLOTTED CRIME PART 3 STARTS MONDAY
Clotted Crime chapter 3 starts on Monday! $3/month and up subscribers to my Patreon can read it in full there on Monday. This cover is by Kelly Vivanco, the truly great fine artist and cartoonist behind the legendary Patches.
Wow!
Dang, that is smashing. Love the dynamic between the scratchy inking and the sculpted colours
(hope my layman’s attempt at describing art didn’t embarrass me too much there)
I sense that cats will play an important role in this chapter.
SO POWERFUL!
Makes me think of Marc Chagall.
Because of the ram?
One hand holding one of the eggs, another a beaker of blood. Looking forward to Part 3.
Absolutely jaw-dropping.
ALL HAIL MAGGIE THE GREAT AND TERRIBLE MOTHER OF MONSTERS
LONG MAY SHE RISE
Amazing work! It looks like a mixture of Medieval fresco and Jim Mahfood.
INteresting necklace
A girl asks where she can get one of those necklaces with a letter T
That’s a cross, she’s informed.
Across from what?, she replies
Maggie looks good 😀 she always does, but in this cover too
Definitely going to have to come back and look at this cover again after the chapter’s over.
Snakes, pentagrams, flaming skull, CND teddy bear… It looks like many influences on Maggie’s life will be coming back to haunt her, in Tredregyn and in Rock.
I was just thinking that the cover is an extraordinary illustration of that feeling when you’re about to confront some things from your childhood, and confront some people about those things.
Open a stuffed-animal drawer, and snakes spring out.
… and is that a shrunken human head below the beaker of blood? With sewn-up lips in approved head-hunter fashion …
Hey, I was looking for that! Good to see it’s been found.
How have I never noticed that Maggie’s name doesn’t have a cross next to it in the sidebar?
NEUTRAL
That was the FIRST thing I noticed when John took this comic to the web-o-sphere.
I must sheepishly confess, when this comic first went online I saw that and thought it was an oversight. Then later I realized it was a deliberate choice that actually made a lot of sense. I apologize for doubting you John! I promise I won’t do it again!
She’s neither all bad nor all good. Most of us are that same mix of human traits.
Most of the other characters are neither all bad nor all good, either.
Yeah, but they’ve picked their teams. Maggie has left the CoS but not really aligned herself with the CoE, for all that she makes the place more saucy and confusing.
The CoE/CoS divide doesn’t necessarily map onto good/evil as neatly as some (on either side) would like to believe. It’s more like old-school D&D, where there was only one alignment axis, and it was the Lawful/Neutral/Chaotic one. While some tried to make Lawful == Good and Chaotic == Evil, that wasn’t really how it worked. You could have good or evil characters at either end of the scale, and AD&D and later D&D editions have a two-axis system that makes that explicit.
Tom may be CoS Evil, but Brian’s more CoS Neutral, and Billie’s CoS Good. On the other side, David’s at least trying to be CoE Good, but Mrs. Clovis may be CoE Neutral. And I think Maggie’s Neutral Good… good, but not aligned on the CoE-CoS axis.
Good point. Brian’s clearly CN, in AD&D and up terms, yes. I think, despite his ostensibly being the head of a church of Chaos, Tom’s more NE than CE, though (and I think he kind of wants to be LE, but his church is too inherently chaotic to allow that). I think that discrepancy’s part of the problem for him. (I also think that all of these are oversimplifications, and that, as in the real world, the characters in this world don’t map perfectly, or sometimes at all, to D&D alignments.)
Agagagaga I love this cover.
Patches!
Well, if THAT doesn’t grab your attention…
So fierce! And it has flaming eyeballs! I can’t tell you how much I enjoy seeing flaming eyeballs.
This cover is amazing.
