AUTHOR UNKNOWN? BEGINS APRIL 12TH
A year ago (at the time of writing, late February 2021) I got off my sickbed after nearly three weeks of the worst flu I can remember and decided that I had had enough of making comic strips about comic strips I made in 1998. I was alive and I was going to put my back into writing and drawing my ‘A’ material. It turned out to be a year where there wasn’t much else to do BUT please oneself. I think the 2020 Steeple stories, Destroy History: NEMS (part 1) and Circus Windows have been some of my favourite comics I’ve made. To cap off this year of intense endeavour, I present a very special final 44-page event: AUTHOR UNKNOWN? I’ve been working on this story since November 2019, it’s been through a lot of revisions to make sure it meant something even taken in isolation. It needed me to make all the comics I did over the last year to give it a bit of weight. There is something for both long-term and newer readers, to the exclusion of no-one. I really hope that you enjoy it.
Been reading you for over 20 years now, enjoyed every minute!
Can’t agree more. Every new set of characters has been a delight.
Any chance the hidden figure left of Mrs. Clovis is the often spoken of, never before seen Mr. Clovis?
That would be interesting. I was thinking that figure might be The Bosun.
Perhaps Mrs. Clovis’ uptight twin sister?
I am excited!!
I see the head of a Fish Man!
What is this game? I swear it rings faint bells from my increasingly-distant youth
Guess Who!
Jinx
Guess Who
is the name of the game
And I want to play the game with you!
Yay! More Steeple! And this time, with added Grote! And look- Shelley!
You have no idea how much I’m looking forward to this!
Lottie AND Shelley in “Steeple”!?
*fanboy-ish scream of joy* 😀
I second a fanboyish scream of joy.
It’s the super-crossover event of the summer! Look out, Marvel!
I have a low-ish kind of voice. We might have a SQUEE-voice harmony!
Loving Shelley’s rabbit-in-the-headlights look. There’s somebody who’s been through every mangle and learnt to recognise the rollers as the heave into view.
Considering how often she’s died over the years, one can hardly blame her.
I’m pretty sure she’s only actually died a couple of times (and she got better, of course). She’s miraculously survived certain death many, many times, though.
“only actually died a couple of times”
I feel that this still counts as “often”, at least when talking about the number of time a person has died. I’m pretty sure most people have only died at most one time (or zero, if they are currently alive).
Redheads in comics, though…
I wonder who the plaid shoulder behind Shelley belongs to. Assuming that IS a plaid shoulder. Eggsy, maybe?
Shelley looks positively Lynchian in that pic.
This looks like the best thing ever!
Mr. Allison, your art and writing earned my trust long ago and just keep … um, earning it … harder? Anyway, I am excited for whatever this next work will end up being!
Also the title of a great record by Jason Falkner.
OK, so I’ve read everything “John Allison” that has ever been online, as far as I can tell. It’s been quite a while.
But I missed out on the printed Steeple comic and skipped the Steeple sequel that was online here. Is there a timeline for what I’m missing? What volumes represent what issues? Should I avoid this story before catching up?
Steeple volume 1 is the print issues. Volume 2 is the Silvery Moon and Secret Sentai stories on the website. You should probably read them first. The new story does spoil those stories in several places.
Thanks a bunch! Hardly a more reputable source on the info to be had!
“Reputable”? John? You’ve clearly never seen his tattoos. Or what they do when he flexes his muscles! The number of comic conventions he’s been barred from grows week by week when there’s no plague in town.
Clearly Mr Allison has had a ‘crossover’ with Willem Dafoe….
LET’S GO!
Is that Dani and Dreckly from Godsplann I see over there on the right?
