In my always-vigorous Steeple headcanon, it’s about hobos who fight each other for the loot they scavenge at the end of the show, and it’s already replaced the primary process in five states.
It’s short for “Shaggy”, as in the gangly Scooby-Doo investigator. Or perhaps the singer who insisted that “It wasn’t me”, which is always a good quote to employ in mystery-type situations.
I am immensely entertained by the thought of you going around public parks in San Francisco, or West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and saying “Cheerio! Wasson me cock?” to random passersby.
I did use it yesterday! To open a chat with one of the guys who lives down in Dorset (county just a bit east of Cornwall) and he responded with ‘nowt my you’, at which point I was lost again and had to abandon the cool kids slang.
That’s was unexpected… Maybe I’m wrong, but right here Maggie don’t looks like a big sister, but like a mother. She’s showing her protective side for helping Lottie calm down. So sweet ♡. Penrose seems to have a plan and needs Maggie’s help. Very nice!
This made me laugh out loud. It would be fun to see you illustrate some of these fake shows you make for filler strips if that spirit ever moves you! (But you do work hard enough for us already.)
You can be reassured that it is all that anybody in Cornwall under 80 or so has ever bought (unless they have an A3 printer, which is obviously something that Reverend Penrose should consider). And they don’t even make printers that handle foolscap, which is what the olds had before.
Albert mentions foolscap, which is folio, aka big boy book size. It is also exactly two A4’s in size… which is exactly what the Rev is trying to print.
(sorry, author and general ‘nerd’ of language and books here)
Um, according to Wikipedia, “Foolscap Folio” can be either 81⁄2″ × 131⁄2″ (which would be what I recall encountering in my youth) or 8″ × 13″. Neither is anything like twice A4. (A4 is metric, 210mm × 297mm, which equates to approximately 8.3″ × 11.7″; twice that would be 16.6″ × 11.7″.)
My understanding, which I will obviously not check against official information lest I be disabused of the notion, is that the A series is formed by successive cutting of the previous ones in the series in half. Thus A3 is twice as big as A4, which would go well with Albert’s suggestion that it is what Rev. Penrose should be looking into.
It does seem odd, though, that A# paper would be measured in metric units (base 10) if it is a series of halvings (base 2). Seems like an idea that would fit better in a measuring system full of 12s and 16s.
Does Maggie deliberately rip her jeans to show off her eye tattoos, or is it a handy coincidence
Possibly the eyes burn holes in the fabric.
This!
I’m assuming she does it deliberately, or deliberately buys pre-ripped jeans with holes in those places (yes, they sell pre-ripped jeans).
I can see the need for professionally pre-ripped Jeans. Mine only seem to go at the crotch, obviously I’m an amateur at jean ripping.
I assumed she was wearing them when she went to the tattoo parlour.
I am sure the moment she found Jeans with the rips in exactly that place, she bought all the pairs she could afford.
Canadian Dumpster Divers is the better reality TV show.
Clearly, as it seems that the American version puts viewers right to sleep.
But the original Japanese version, “日本!ダンプスターに飛び込む 富を得る やった”, still has a unique charm.
“American Dumpster Divers” is all about how we pick Presidential candidates, I’ll assume. 😛

What does “shag” mean in this context?
Could it be the typical Cornish shortening of “Charlotte?”
I don’t know if it relates to this, but it’s apparently the name of a bird. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_shag
Some sort of diminutive of Charlotte, along the lines of Shaz, Shazza.
It’s short for “Shaggy”, as in the gangly Scooby-Doo investigator. Or perhaps the singer who insisted that “It wasn’t me”, which is always a good quote to employ in mystery-type situations.
It’s Cornish slang, like “mate” or “bud”.
I’ve never heard that one before, and on first read thought it was an indecent proposal.
Out of interest just looked up some cornish slang and my favourite is ‘Wasson me cock’, which I will be inserting into all conversations from now on.
Hey! If so, you should come visit us Stateside.

I didn’t call him a shag though.
Try it in San Francisco. You’ll be looking for a man named “Burly Bear”, he’ll show you the ropes.
I’m actually so surprised it’s not Shag as in Shaggy from Scooby-Doo lmao.
Moi lover
I thought it was a reference to her hair.

Mag’s use of trash TV to soothe the savage beast has been shown before vs. the Brasso’d axes often wielded by Reverend Penrose.
Brian’s car show, soothing American Dumpster Diving, etc.
We all know that Lottie is a savage. Maybe that is a central moral lesson of all these Steeple stories… Beast soothing.
Apparently she is a Master (Mistress? – Well, she IS trying to be good…) of Trash TV Fu.
Getting real Dr. Steven Brule vibes from “American Dumpster Divers.”
Get in the dumpster, lick everything you dummy! Tastes like fruit!

Maggie in panel 4 is wonderful. Such posework. Such grace.
Gorgeous under all aspects♡.
Reverend Penrose has long since given in to his powerlessness when it comes to computers.
Threatening the computer/printer with an axe has proven futile.
Penrose is a fervent advocate of the split-screen interface.
The last time he axed the computer a question, it went poorly for everybody.
Bits spilled from it like coins from a slot machine jackpot!
Ah, the soporific effects of American trash TV. Am American, can confirm.
Also… A4?? That’s slightly narrower and slightly longer than I’m used to!!
*Donald Sutherland Body Snatchers point and howl*

A4 seems to be the international standard. 8 1/2X11 is more USA specific. The tray in my old Canon printer will accept both, with adjustments.
8.5×11 is also used in Canada.

No apologies!
That is a lovely comment. Thank you for making it.

Sorry, but you triggered MY nerd reflexes.
(And the formatting went funny there. The first dimensions there should be 8.5″ x 13.5″.)
