I have a selfish request – would it be possible to bump the resolution up a bit on the images, please? I feel like we’re missing some of the beautiful detail in your art 🙂
Yes, unfortunately, this is a paid-for plus. But even if you don’t pay for it, take comfort that the efforts of the Patreon subscribers keep this site ad-free.
Sounds like a letter from her family… Maggie really needs to get very drunk. The whole town is working, Billie is working too. She has finally stopped her criticism on the TV money and she can see the benefits her praying has done to the city. I am very interested in the content of the letter.
TBH I quail when I remember that Maggie had been in the Church of Satan for some time before Billie’s arrival and there must have been some — ah — congress — between Maggie and Tom.
It occurred to me that, while we at least know the bare minimum about Billie’s family — parents that she keeps in contact with, one set of grandparents (it’s very, VERY rare [although by no means unheard of, I make a sincere effort to avoid generalizations] for a fictional character to have BOTH sets of grandparents) — we (well, *I*, anyway) know nothing about Maggie’s. Perhaps we’ll learn soon. Or perhaps we won’t. I have narrowed it down to those TWO possibilities.
On a tangent (because that’s a thing I do), not only do fictional characters rarely have both sets of grandparents, they *almost* invariably have only paternal grandparents. Which plays into the trope of supernatural roles/icons are usually passed down from father to son to son to son (until, in some cases, the present day, when there’s a daughter the break the tradition and bring in the “but…but you’re a GIRL!” trope). No, really, think about it. Even on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” even though Rupert Giles’s role as Watcher was passed down by his grandMOTHER (I suspect that Joss Whedon did that to deliberately subvert the trope I just outlined), it was his PATERNAL grandmother. It’s almost as though the presumption is that one’s mother’s side of the family can offer nothing of value. Hm.
It’s pretty common — perhaps even more common — for things like witch powers to pass down the female line. What’s rare is for things to pass from mother to son or father to daughter.
Still summer! Loose the double fleeces, and I bet the blokes will be making way and buying the drinks.
Loving this story!

I think you get higher-res pages (and other nice stuff besides) by supporting John’s Patreon.

A… reasonable response – I might have to jump to the next tier then!
And in case you’re wondering, absolutely worth the extra detail.

Does that envelope bear a wax seal?
Either that or a sticker that’s supposed to look like a wax seal. I’d be far more willing to bet on your guess than mine, though.
You know what they say, be wary of bears waxing seals
Canadian SF author Gordon R. Dickson wrote a novel called The Right to Arm Bears.
It’s pretty much what it sounds like.
Maggie’s Satanist permit is about to expire, the licensing authority needs her to renew her qualifications.
Probably an official document. Maggie’s dad is a rich old coot, who just kicked it, and has left her all his money.
can’t stop shipping maggie and billie. send help
I totally ship either Billie x Maggie or Maggie x Rev. Penrose
And maybe Billie x Brian
Yeah, Billie x Brian is a maybe for me, as well.
Billie X Dan. The anti-ship.
Whoops, meant Billie X Tom. (Even my fingers quailed from mentioning them together.)
TBH I quail when I remember that Maggie had been in the Church of Satan for some time before Billie’s arrival and there must have been some — ah — congress — between Maggie and Tom.
{shudder}
Nah
Do you mean Dan from Vape Escape? I think he and Billie could hit it off.
They are adorable together ♡.
It wasn’t there for me at first, but it’s been steadily growing for me over time….and the matching fleeces might push me over the edge.
I wozn’t paying attention to when they started matching but I love that they’re matching.
My idea was that they did it to emphasise the team togetherness of the veg stall in Clotted Crime. Some worldbuilding within worldbuilding.
I just assumed they were dressed by the production company rather than use their personal clothes.
Billie bust out her Patagonia fleece very early in the Steeple webcomic run.
I thought so too, and was wondering why they were allowed to go off set in their costumes.
Yes, both wearing fleece and fleecing the out-of-towners
double-fleecing the out-of-towners
What does “old rope” mean here?
(not a Brit)
“Money for old rope” – money or reward earned for little or no effort.
Would the old rope be sold to a rag & bone man?

One of those Nanas that watch this twaddle wouldn’t happen to include Billie’s would it?
